My studio is welcoming and friendly; classes offer reasonable rates and the opportunity to approach music without fear or intimidation. • I specialize in beginning classes that emphasize music reading and comprehensive musicianship for a lifetime of enjoyment. • My group setting offers students fun and effective lessons to help your student become an independent musician for life as well as play piano. Katy Stephan
Pianist, vocalist and songwriter Katy Stephan has been a music director and pianist for The Marsh Youth Theatre, San Francisco Youth Theatre, Lamorinda Theatre Academy, Spindrift School of Performing Arts, James Lick Middle School, Moreau Catholic High School and other arts organizations. In addition to educating young musicians, Katy has been a soloist with the Oakland East Bay Symphony (Bernstein's Candide and Mass, Sondheim's Follies); and her voice has been featured in major motion picture soundtracks, TV movies and theme songs, and in childrens toys for Leapfrog and Fisher Price. She has created original music for theatre productions (Word For Word, Porchlight Theatre, Upon These Boards, Azeotrope) and modern dance (Requisite Dance, Project Agora, Copious Dance Theatre). She plays piano and sings regularly at the Comstock Saloon in San Francisco’s North Beach, which has been named one of the Best Bars In America by Esquire and Best Cocktail Bar in America by GQ and featured on Anthony Bourdain’s The Layover. Her original music is available on iTunes, CDBaby and at bandcamp.com.
